Abstract:In this study, which focuses on the Los Angeles metropolitan area, the author goes beyond previous studies by distinguishing between single-worker households and two-worker households. According to the March 1990 Current Population Survey of the U.S. Bureau of the Census, 46% of the households in the Los Angeles metropolitan area are two-worker households and 39% are single-worker households. The remaining 15% of the households have more than two workers.
