| Abstract: | The author examines the influence of EU policies on public services. It traces the impact and constraints of the treaty and the various EU directives that have led to the opening up of different sectors to competition. Attention is drawn to the problematic nature both of the underlying ideology - that liberalisation promotes competition and lower prices - and to the concrete outcomes in many countries and sectors. |
