Abstract:Trust is an important factor for the long-term success of a company. Yet, in addition to the company building up trust, the CEO representing it also influences the company’s success. This study reviews how different dimensions of trust (i.e. ability, integrity, benevolence, and information quality) affect the extent of overall trust in a company and in CEOs. Information about international companies and CEOs is mainly acquired via media use. Results of a survey in Switzerland (n = 245) indicate that companies are more trusted than CEOs and that the factors which influence overall trust differ between CEOs and companies. Social responsibility is an important factor for both groups.
