| Abstract: | The paper analyzes the contributing authors and institutions to 24 academic journals from their inception till 1988. Rankings are developed for all papers and papers published between 1979 and 1988. The main findings are as follows: 1) a marked increase in the share of co-authored papers; 2) explosion in numbers of publications; 3) a weak connection between the size of doctoral program at an institution and its frequency of publication. 4) Quantity and quality are not the same. |
