Abstract:Past and future trends in world energy consumption are described and analyzed in the article; special attention is paid to mobilization of resources in Part 1. R&D efforts, exploration, capital expenditure for deliveries to consumer markets are investigated. All these condition the price terms and delivery times associated with each of the energy sources. The relative capacities determine the conditions of competition and trend in the long term substitution. One of the conclusions is that a sustained but perhaps differentiated rise in energy prices seems to be inevitable to absorb the shocks by preparing the economy early for the sweeping and foreseeable developments, to avoid excesses by timely mobilizations.
