Abstract: | With launch and manufacturing costs on the rise, there is a growing interest in lightweight satellites. Smaller satellites are used by the military but haven't moved into the commercial arena. The most comprehensive plan for lightsats in geosynchronous orbit has come from Ball Aerospace. Its lightsat model is the BGS-100, which will include one to three transponders in any frequencies from UHF to Ka band. It will have a 7-year lifetime. Some 70 percent of the lightsat market would be international. |
