Abstract:There have been several attempts to provide international paging. According to an Inmarsat expert, these efforts have failed for two reasons: the absence of a single global standard and the consequent inability of fledgling networks. Companies in the U.S. Canada, and Great Britain haven't given up. The closest thing at present is the link between the U.S. and the U.K. that was made by Metrocast in late 1989. Inmarsat is also working on a satellite paging system.
