Abstract:Video compression permits the transmission of multiple television programs in the space presently occupied by a single video signal. THe future of video compression depends on complicated issues such as economics, quality, the availability of sufficient, cheap video to feed 10 to 20 times as many channels, consumer acceptance, and ease of access to the transponders by the program providers.
