| Abstract: | Several Russian companies set up the Smolsat consortium and launched six low-Earth orbit (LEO) communications satellites, partly belonging to the Gonets-D satellite. The system starts to operate in 1995 using up over 30 satellites and more relay stations. It will handle, first of all,fax and electronic messages worldwide. |
