Abstract:This paper discusses the reform of petroleum prices in May 1994, the status quo of demand-supply relations of petroleum in China and the long-term tendency, the new management system of petroleum prices. Crude oil produced by oil fields on land in China is priced by the government, managed and supplied by Sinochem. Petroleum products are available on markets. Petroleum makes up a big proportion of China's energy production and consumption. The gap between demand and supply will widen continuously. The insufficiency of oil resources at home will lead to an increasing import of oil. The floating price system under the control of the government agrees with the actual situation in China.
