| Abstract: | Growing scarcity of oil and rising oil prices are highly essential for tourism. This article provides a critical meta-analysis to evaluate current knowledge of 'tourism and oil'. The interdisciplinary analysis is complex as no clear boundaries of the phenomenon exist, the interpretation of 'facts' depends on context, and activities relevant to tourism and oil are multi-dimensional. The review proposes that increasing oil prices will affect tourism in a wide range, including lifestyle changes and the role of tourism within these. Presented knowledge of tourism and oil is far from comprehensive and acts as a starting point for further enquiry. Especially, research on the interpretive components of the phenomenon is still poorly conceptualised and weakly understood. |
