Abstract: | Three pressing economic problems beset newly installed Chinese premier Zhu RongJi at the start of his tenure. Among China's nascent -- and very inefficient -- capital markets, the bond market is in fact the least developed. The existence of a deeper market, as will be developed, is a prerequisite for reform of the State-owned enterprises and to the solution of the non-performing loan problem of the state-owned banks. Such a market is also necessary for implementation of effective macroeconomic policies. |
