Abstract:The article explores strategical motivations for corporate philanthropy using data from a recent survey of 200 UK companies. The results identify the various practices, policies and managerial structures within which charities are managed and the multiple perceptions regarding the impacts on the level of charities. The results suggest that even though philanthropy is increasingly managel within strategically consistent formal structures, there is little evidence that the level or distribution of corporate giving is strategically oriented.
