Abstract:It has long been argued that individualisation is inherently increasing in modern conditions. The ethical responsibility given to individuals and its effects on institutions has not been studied properly even if it has been acknowledged in business ethics literature. This article generates a concept of "ethical individualism" to better explain the expansion of individual ethical responsibility into the UK consulting industry. It is argued that individual ethics can't prevent misconduct when they conflict with institutional interests.
