Abstract:According to a survey, the findings are that UK industry cannot be criticized for not living up to its environmental responsibilities when clear, universally agreed targets are still lacking on many issues. Some research was commissioned into the most important UK group, the members of parliament (MP), to gauge their opinions on how British industry is living up to its environmental responsibilities. 71 MPs were questioned, the sample reflecting the party and regional balance. Around 60 percent believed that laws covering industrial pollutants and effluents, and recycling, were not tough enough. Half of the opposition MPs considered that British industry was less responsible towards the environment than its main European competitors.
