Abstract:The rapid growth and scale of financial derivatives in the United Stated have led to concern that this sector of the financial markets ought to be more strictly regulated to protect firms and banks. Disclosure or certification requirements should be established, but active regulation is unnecessary. In this article the authors suggests that at least some of the questions relating to regulating financial derivatives can be answered by examining three specific issues.
