Abstract:The study examines whether early retirement patterns vary between countries with distinct early retirement systems. The study was made analysing data from three countries. The goal is to find answers from the data analysis to questions of how state interferes and the coverage and generosity of publicly provided pensions influence on individual early retirement behaviour. Three national panel surveys that describe the socio-economic position of individuals over time, were used for the analysis. The findings reveal that a shift from public to private early retirement schemes can decrease the incidence of early retirement. Simultaneously, early retirement can get more selective features which means that only the higher paid afford it.
