Abstract:Systems changes often occur. When new machines, software packages, operational standards are introduced certain conversion processes will be necessary. Despite the advent of automated conversion tools and consultants who specialize in conversion services, making a major change in an organization's production systems continues to be a daunting operation. The present challenges of a conversion are summarized. The role of conversion planning is characterized. In case of major architectural and organizational changes strategic approach and project organization are suggested. Several advances in computing environment, standards etc. that will help simplify many systems changes are examined. Some management issues are emphasized.
