EARLY RETIREMENT

Abstract:The average age of the working population in Western Europe increases drastically. The increased number of mid-age and older workers may need training opportunities, up-to-date skills and other openings for permanent development. However, contradictory ageing policies take place in working organisations such as some discriminatory ageing practices and the early retirement trend. The negative views about ageing may be partly responsible for the negative cognitive development at work and for the low quality of working life during the years approaching retirement for older workers. A reevaluation of the negative view of older workers is urgent to reduce discrimination at work and recognize adult skills.
