| Abstract: | Effectively managed product development process can ensure survival through reduced time to market, increased quality and reduced cost. The paper establishes a cost-effectiveness based performance measurement system for new product development (NPD). It's based on lowering the total cost. The merits of measuring NPD performance using total cost analysis include: (1) a common measurement language - money, and (2) very simple and visible numbers along with direct and indirect ratios to help management and employees to understand the importance of "doing things right the first time". Three groups were studied and the interactions and mutual movements among them were investigated. |
