Abstract:Expert systems apply human knowledge that is stored in a computer to solve problems that usually require human expertise. Unfortunately, the use of expert systems can have negative effects on employee morale, and managers should make every effort to offset these effects through training, job rotation, and several other means. The benefits that have been derived through the use of expert systems technology are discussed. Several key issues for managers are identified, and actions that managers can take in addressing these concerns are recommended.
