Abstract:The paper examines illegal shill billing in online auctions, using eBay as a case company. It is speculated that if unethical behavior on the internet becomes too widespread, it may have broader implications for the entire online marketplace and for the future development and regulation of business activities on the internet. The article suggests that shill billing on eBay is perpetrated more often than according to the estimation by the firm, and therefore regulators, users, and other stakeholders may start taking action. The impacts of actions on the internet of the future may affect a great amount of internet users beyond the unethical sellers.
