Abstract:This article presents the results from an empirical study arguing that ethical judgment is not sufficient, by itself, to explain ethically questionable behaviour (here as: eqb.) in consumption. Adopting Ajzen's Theory of Planned Behavior, presented are results from a self-completion survey questionnaire covering five scenarios which describe ethical consumer dilemmas. Using confirmatory factor analysis, assessed are measurement structures. Using logistic regression, the proposed model was estimated. Three antecedents, namely Social Norm, Perceived Behavioral Control, and Perceived Unfairness are found to have a significant and positive impact on intention to engage in eqb. The finding of Perceived Unfairness having a significant impact is particularly interesting. It is also suggested that intentions to engage in eqb. vary across different situations.
