Abstract:The economy of the hinder land which is the backing of Shenzhen has developed rapidly. In 1994, Guangdong province's GDP amounted to 417.5 billion yuan, accounting for 9.5% of the whole country's. Its total volume of import and export made up 2/5 of GDP. In terms of the volume of utilized foreign investment, it ranked first in the provinces of the country. The export-oriented economy has already taken shape. The western port area has development potential for it has 10-odd km. coastal line, along which more than 50 berths may be established. By 2010, this area will have 109 berths, 47 deep water berths with a handling capacity of 75 million tons.
