| Abstract: | Under the guidance of Deng Xiaoping theory, China has opened Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Shantou, Xiamen cities and Hainan province successively since 1980 and set up the Pudong New Area in Shanghai in 1990. By 1996, the GDP, total industrial output value and utilized foreign investment of the five special economic zones reached 216.903 billion yuan, 295.964 billion yuan and US$ 6.187 billion respectively. It is estimated that their GDP and total industrial out put value will rise by 16% and 18% respectively in 1998. In their development, we should promote comprehensively "starting an under taking for the second time", be first to shape and improve the new system of socialist market economy and ownership structure and establish the government organs catering to the needs of market. |
