Abstract:Purpose of this paper is to document why the results from Biofuel Energy Systems Simulator (BESS) and the greenhouse gases, regulated emissions, and energy use in transportation model (GREET) diverge so widely. The results show that BESS models have a more efficient biorefinery than is modeled in the cases to which its results have been compared and in several instances BESS fails to properly count upstream emissions.
