| Abstract: | Using the capabilities approach framework, this article aims to find out to which extent it is possible to apply European reconciliation policy legistation to Latin American countries with considerable migrant populations. The paper suggests that due to such differences between European and Latin American societies as the availability of domestic help, the extent of the informal economy and international migration European reconciliation policies would lose effectiveness in Latin America. In conclusion, the article brings out a call for rethinking and building gender equality across different countries and social structures. |
