Abstract: | Contrary to popular belief, most of the long-term health and social care needed by dependent elderly people is provided by family members. Because most of those providing the care are full-time employees, eldercare is fast becoming a crucial human resources issue involving productivity, turnover and morale. For women, the number of years with simultaneous responsibilities for elderly parents and dependent children has increased. Moreover, as increasing numbers of working women delay childbearing, the number of years spent in the middle of this sandwich is expected to increase dramatically. |
