Abstract:Degradation of global environment due to human economic activities has already surpassed the self-reviving capacities of the earth in several fronts. The depletion of ozone layers, loss of biological diversities through extinction of species and populations, and global warming caused by emissions of greenhouse gases are a few examples. The use of global environmental resources, our common property, is thus no longer free but entails great social costs. Our societies have failed to establish socioeconomic systems that properly integrate the social costs into private decisions.
