Abstract: | Just as private enterprises must respond to changing economic and business conditions, nonprofit entities such as public universities must adapt to increasingly competitive environments. Enrollment-based state funding formulas and the changing demographics of potential students have caused public and private universities to compete for student clients. One public university, the University of Idaho, made a strategic decision to gain competitive advantage in the vital student recruitment and retention market. Three generic strategies have been developed, including re-evaluation of computing services, improvement of product lines such as financial aid, employment of state-of-art teleprocessing services. |
