Abstract:Companies face a predicament in many mass markets today. Customers are demanding that their orders be fulfilled ever more quickly, but they are also demanding highly customized products and services. The authors show how Hewlett-Packard and others have proved that companies can deliver customized products quickly and at a low cost by rethinking and integrating the designs of their products, the processes used to make and deliver those products, and the configuration of their supply networks.
