Abstract:This study investigates the hypothesis "firms operating in highly regulated sectors are more likely to review their environmental performance than those operating in less regulated sectors". It focuses on the response of the UK engineering sector to environmental pressures, including those targeted by regulation, those considered by HM Inspectors of Pollution to operate potentially hazardous processes and those not so targeted, who operate non-hazardous processes. It was found that there were no significant difference in the use of environmental reviews between the two groups.
