Abstract:The fight against unemployment and the creation of new jobs remain the prime aims of economic policy in most European countries. This article presents a comparison btw. France and the U.K. showing that employment trends have recently been substantially more favourable in France than in Great Britain. Following the significant improvement in supply conditions in the French economy during the 1980s, the country recently moved over to an expansionary economic policy.
