Abstract:The subject of this paper is employment and economic theory. The author of this paper focuses on the open- ended full-time employment relationship, a dominant form of employment on the labor markets of the European Union (EU). He considers the forms of employment as defined by European Community Household Panel and distribution of forms of employment. The author also pays attention to non- standard employment in the EU in 1996. At the conclusion the author states that the shares of the various forms of employment relative to total employment are shifting throughout Europe, but not because 'the standard employment relationship is being eroded' - rather because there is decline in the number of non- active women.
