| Abstract: | The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), which was passed in Rio de Janeiro in 1992 and came into force in 1994, represents the first international treaty seeking to combat the risks facing the global climate. The article includes an overview of global emission trends with figures by country in 1990, 1999/2000 with target figures for 2008-2012. The conclusion: Further action essential. |
