Abstract:This paper examines the use of metonymies in people's talk about organizations (here as: orgs). Drawing on a corpus of natural talk extracted from the British National Corpus (BNC), identified are recurring categories of metonymies appearing to be a central part of people's talk about orgs. The findings' implications are elaborated for the understanding of how orgs. are discursively constructed and understood through metonymic language.
