Abstract:Although uncovering the factors that lead companies to offer franchises has long been a central goal of franchising research, considerable ambiquity surrounds extant findings. In an effort to resolve this ambiquity, meta-analysis was used in this study to aggregate results from 44 studies containing 140 tests of ten hypotheses. Two theoretical perspectives are reflected in the two hypotheses: resource scarcity and agency theory.
