Abstract:This article studies the effect of layoffs on firm reputation. The data used is from Fortune Magazine’s America’s Most Admired Companies survey. The findings suggest that layoffs have an adverse effect on a firm’s reputation and that this relation is considerably stronger for newer firms than older firms. The article also discusses the implications of this research and future research questions.
