Abstract:Outshopping is the behaviour of consumers who make retail purchases outside of the community in which they live. Outshopping is most prevalent in rural communities and represents a serious threat to rural retailers. The impact of Internet on outshopping by rural residents is investigated in this article, and behaviour, attitudes and future intentions are studied. The findings show that rural consumers are using the Internet to facilitate outshopping and intend to significantly increase this behaviour.
