Abstract: | Especially in the U.S. rural areas, tourism is an important economic development driver. Using survey data from tourism-based (herein as: t-b.) businesses (as: buss.) and tourism promotion and economic development organizations in rural Western Pennsylvania and West Virginia of the U.S., this paper compares how the various actors perceive the most pressing tourism promotion efforts and business challenges. Overall, tourism buss. and support organizations agree on the promotional needs of t-b. buss., holding similar perceptions about industry problems. However, tourism promotion agencies underestimate the role of the Internet in promotions, perceiving workforce issues differently than do buss. etc. |
