Abstract: | A fundamental change that appears to be occuring in the practical and theoretical aspects of engineering economy is discussed. Several definitions /engineering economy, paradigm, etc./ are considered. The conclusions are based on fundamental and far-reaching changes taking place in the USA /international manufacturing and service industries/. Transformations represent a paradigm shift in the way we will plan and operate business in the 21st century. Recent emphasis on the role of engineering strategic and design-related decision processes has created a real need for a change in focus in engineering economy technique and methodology. Several areas of research opportunity arising due to the paradigm shift are also identified. |
