Abstract:A massive transformation of the world automotive industry's organization is foreseen towards the year 2000 in a decade of "rethinking transportation". Car demand continues to rise but growth is forcing internationalism and regionalization. The growing use of cars depends on growth in income and a well developed infrastructure. The growth of population will mainly occur in Asia and Africa but there will be structural changes in industrialized countries where the core of the car business stays in the next decade. At the same time, industrialized markets demand more diversified products to meet challenges of demography and urban traffic congestion. The opening of new markets in Eastern Europe requires capital investments.
