Abstract:The Swedish population of 8.5 million was perceived as being among the most affluent consumer markets in Western Europe. In Sweden, however, the rapid space of success brought some problems for the country's government recently, influencing the consumers' market. Data are presented on the growth of population from 1980 to 1989, its distribution by counties, and on labour force indicators. Several tables illustrate household income and disposable income in Sweden, like the composition of disposable income, changes in household purchasing power. Consumer spending patterns are shown by data on private consumption 1985-1988 and on retail trade sales indices 1986-1989.
