Abstract: | The use of nonlinear dynamical theory, and in particular chaos theory, as tools in the analysis of social systems is extremely new thing. Researchers have followed one of two paths: the attempt to determine if some empirical sequence over time follows a chaotic trajectory; whether a generated chaotic sequence exhibits characteristics similar to an empirical sequence, where term "similar" can be a nebulous term. This analysis follows a path in between these two, with subtle differences from both. The analysis employs the insights emerged from the analysis of nonlinear dynamical systems to the domain of model building. The analysis details the effects of the inadverent introduction of chaotic processes into models which have been constructed as decision-making tools. |
