Abstract:In order to ensure their competitiveness, corporations establish strategic alliances with other firms. However, alliances do not always result in satisfactory performance. It is suggested that the collective learning and the way it is managed plays a central role in the success and failure of strategic alliances. The article offers a framework to understand better the variety in alliance development, performance and longevity by synthesizing startegic alliance, organizational learning, collective action and game theories.
