Abstract:In the early telephone industry competition and mutualism between legally autonomous companies was sought for. Neighboring companies had both types of interdependencies, although their exact nature depends on organizational form. Companies in separate geographical locations are competitive with each other, regardless of organizational form. The two main organizational forms in the industry at this time each flourished in distinct niches and were closely related. The findings are interpreted within a community ecology framework. The next is supplied with numerous tables presenting relevant data.
