Abstract:The most comprehensive summary of gasoline and other transport fuel demand studies to date is presented to forecasters and policy-makers to whom forecasting gasoline consumption is of interest. Though the studies sometimes appear to arrive at contradictory results, it is found that with proper stratification of studies by model and data type much of the conflict turns to consensus. The studies are classified by data type and by ten different categories of models and with the exception of estimates of seasonal data, a fair degree of agreement was found concerning average short-run and even long-run income and price elasticities.
