| Abstract: | The objectives of the study are the following: 1) to operationalize and validate the "strategic grid" as a measure of the role played by information systems (IS); 2) to evaluate the differences in IS planning systems among organizations with different roles for IS; 3) to evaluate the relationship between performance and the fit between the "role of IS" and the quality of the IS planning process. It is reported that there are three major ways in which the results of this study can be used to improve organizations - to improve communications, to improve strategy formulation, and to improve IS planning and organizational processes. Implications for researchers are also provided. |
