| Abstract: | The Thames at low tide is not a pretty sight - acres of sludge punctuated by the odd shopping trolley - but Richard Simpson finds much to be enthusiastic about. "The barges carrying the raw materials used to dock here," he says, leaning over a shoulder-high wall to point out a wooden platform. "They really should have made the river non-tidal again when the Thames barrier went up. I would have loved to have seen barges steaming along here again". |
