Abstract:When environmental issues are discussed within the context of data processing, they are often focused on desktop units and framed in terms of equipment ergonomics. Perhaps a more comprehensive and effective strategy for environmentally friendly operations can be formulated when environmental concerns are built into policies at every step of the data processing cycle. One firm which has followed this comprehensive approach is Total System Services, a third party processor of credit cards. The case study could be used as a model for other firms wishing to implement similar programs.
